To all Furuba manga readers: do you still remember the “strange dream we saw that morning” which Shigure kept mentioning to Hatori throughout the series? As the newest chapters of Fruits Basket come out, we can finally see what is this little dream about.
Before we talk about the dream, we must first revert our attention to Akito – the God of Juunishi. Her mother Sohma Ren had raised her as a boy ever since her birth (to which the reason is still unknown at this point), and she’s always been frustrated about her life style to a certain extent. There are four people among Juunishi, however, who knew Akito was a woman all along. They are: Sohma Hatori, Sohma Ayame, Sohma Shigure and Sohma Kureno.
How did they know? And it’s strange that they knew Akito would be born as a girl even before Ren’s pregnancy was announced. Well, this is where the “strange dream” comes in. The 4 Juunishi boys saw a dream one fateful morning that a girl who would eventually become very dear to them is about to be born, and the boys woke up crying and rushed to Ren’s side to share the delightful news. It was said that only male members of Juunishi would see this dream, however Ritsu was too young at the time to understand what the dream meant, so he was kept out of the secret all the way.
So what does this mean? Is it also part of the curse – the bond between God and Juunishi that could not be broken by ordinary effort? We will eventually find out as Furuba approaches its climax!
