Where do our Juunishi members live? As stated in volume 2 of Fruits Basket, most Juunishi members live inside of the Sohma Area though a few of them manage to live outside among ordinary humans.

Special Case 1: Sohma Yuki, Sohma Kyou and Sohma Shigure. The beginning was simple: Akito was angered by the fact that Shigure had gone ahead and betrayed her by sleeping with Ren – her own mother. Almost going berserk, Akito ordered Shigure to move out of the Sohma Residence and never to come back again. Therefore, Shigure somehow got his own house and seems to be enjoying his independency quite a lot.

Yuki moved in with Shigure because of Akito’s endless abuse towards him. He was always locked in a dark room, either humiliated by Akito’s bitter words or physically beaten to death. Having a weak body since the beginning, Yuki finally decides to get out of the living hell made by Akito. With Hatsuharu’s help, Yuki moved in with Shigure shortly before he entered high school.

Kyou, on the other hand, was never allowed to live with the normal Juunishi members. He was even forbidden to enter the Sohma Area, which is why he’s always lived with Kazuma, his adopter and mentor.

Special Case 2: Sohma Ayame. This is one amazing Juunishi member who doesn’t seem to be affected by any shadow of curse at all. By “selling” his own little brother off to please Akito, Ayame was able to get out of the Sohma Family and got his own place as well as a designer’s job. It is unknown as to why he always seem so unaffected by Akito’s orders, though there wasn’t any scenes where he disobeyed her, either.
